In Remembrance
Sadly, we report the loss of a great friend of the Gateway Festival Orchestra, James “Jim” Eaton, who passed away on December 16.
Jim contributed in many ways to the GFO: He played cello in the orchestra, he was a member of the Board of Directors, he served as Board President during Maestro Schatzkamer’s era, and most recently rejoined the Board. During his long career in St. Louis, Jim held Principal Cello positions with the Fox Theater Orchestra and the Muny Opera, taught orchestra at Ritenour High School and Parkway North High School, and headed the string instrument divisions of Scherl and Roth and then Knilling Strings. He will be greatly missed.
