Prepare for an evening where tradition meets trailblazing! “American Originals” is more than just a concert; it’s a journey through the inventive heart of music, showcasing how artists continually reshape and redefine sound. Under the masterful baton of Associate Conductor Dr. Leon Burke III, we present a program that bridges eras and genres, featuring two incredible soloists who epitomize the American spirit of musical exploration.We are incredibly excited to welcome Grammy-nominated electric violin pioneer Tracy Silverman and the soulful cello artistry of Denim Browder. Together, they’ll weave a tapestry of sound that is distinctly American in its blend of classical rigor with modern-day zest.

A Program That Dares to Innovate:Ave Maria (Johann Sebastian Bach / Charles Gounod, arranged for cello) Witness GFO Young Artist Denim Browder bring a fresh, intimate perspective to this timeless classic. A Salute to Jean-Luc Ponty (Jean-Luc Ponty, special arrangements for electric violin) Strap in for an electrifying tribute to jazz-fusion legend Jean-Luc Ponty! GFO Guest Artist Tracy Silverman, a true luminary in electric violin, takes center stage to showcase Ponty’s groundbreaking compositions. Experience the raw energy and intricate melodies of pieces like “Bombay,” “Metamorphosis,” “Last Memories,” “Struggle,” and “To and Fro” – a vibrant testament to how American jazz and improvisation transformed modern music and inspired a new generation of instrumentalists.

Dead Symphony No. 6 (Lee Johnson) Concluding our evening is a truly unique American voice: Lee Johnson’s “Dead Symphony No. 6.” This thought-provoking contemporary work challenges expectations and invites listeners into a soundscape that is both profound and utterly original. Discover the vibrant and sometimes surprising world of modern American symphonic composition – a piece that speaks volumes about daring to be different.
